Case Study - Solfest

Objectives

As the crowd at Solfest increased from 1,800 to 10,000 over a three-year period, ticket fraud had become more difficult to control. The primary reason Solfest partnered with tixmob was to eliminate this fraud, but festival Directors Simon Kay and Gerard Irving also aimed to reduce the queues at wristband exchange in order to give consumers a better start to the weekend. With such a large crowd going through one location to retrieve their wristbands, it was vital that the ticket redemption system worked efficiently.

Solution

Using tixmob as the exclusive ticketing agent for Solfest, the organisers ensured that all punters would receive electronic E-tickets, delivered to email and mobile, with completely unique 2D barcodes. When these barcoded tickets were presented at wristband exchange, they were scanned with a PDA that matched each ticket to tixmob's database to ensure that it was an authentic ticket.

To help eliminate queues at wristband exchange, tixmob supplied 15 redemption PDAs and support staff on the ground to help with any potential ticketing issues.

Results

More than 10,000 people attended Solfest without a single fraudulent ticket being used at wristband exchange.
Because the redemption system matches each barcode with the tixmob database in real-time, stewards get immediate feedback from the scanners that note whether the tickets they have scanned are valid, invalid or already used.

With 15 redemption PDAs on hand and tixmob staff on the ground to help with any issues, wait times for wristband exchange never exceeded 20 minutes, even as nearly 3,000 punters came through the exchange area in a three-hour span.
"We are very pleased with tixmob's service at Solfest. People came through with their tickets and were scanned quickly without any trouble," said Solfest Directors Simon Kay and Gerard Irving. "They also helped us eliminate ticket fraud, which had become something of a problem in the past. Everything went very smooth with tixmob."
